Sorry all, I posted this in the wrong discussion forum and have copied it into this forum-

Hello All-

Thanks to the help of this group I have sealed the pores of the mahogoney and have put the final layer of zpoxy down (60/40 based on MP's suggestion). I then took 400 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the dust specs and slight streaks. What results are two problems.

1.) when i look at the wood from an angle I see tiny shiney spots as in this picture. When I wet the wood with naptha these spots are not visible, only when dry
Do I go on to finish with Nitro or do something else?

2.) If I continue to sand the spots away I eat into my 60/40 layer and there is a color variation as shown in the picture below. When it is wet with Naptha, no issues. Do I go on to finish with Nitro or do something else?

So as you can see I seem to be going in circles. I put on the final 60/40 coat, lightly sand with 400 to remove dust specs then I have spots so I continue to sand, when I continue to sand I have to keep sanding because I get uneven colors as in picture 2. After all that I repeat the seal coat and the dreaded circle continues!
Thanks!turbo41139040.6242939815

Thanks for the reply, the problem I seem to have is once its level, when I sand the sealer coat with 400, I create tiny shiney circles.   Am I supposed to keep sanding those shiney circles away or is it ok to spray the nitro over them?

What kind of sanding block are you using? It might be too soft. Try using a flat, hard surface and see it improves your leveling...especially around those edges.

The one and only time I used Zpoxy I had the shiny spots. I tried and tried and tried to get rid of them, all to no avail. So I just gave up and french polished over the shiny spots. I'd be none the wiser to look at it today. No shiny spots.

Shiny spots are low spots as you know. being un-able to sand them out without sanding through means either the surface was not prep'd to level prior to fill or the epoxy coat was not sanded to the same level everywhere. Prep'ing to dead level is not always and easy task but is one that makes a big difference. This one reason I fill then sand back to wood everywhere then do the 60/40 mix wash coat This insures I have a level surface prior to the wash coat. If you have epoxy build up higher in places than others with the wash coat then the raging methods need refined 60% alcohol/ 40% zpoxy should be a very very thin mix. Thin enough that it should leave nearly no film thickness. If you do get some riding from your rag you can go back after a few min. with just alcohol on a lint free rag and using a quick straight spiriting stoke, melt the ridges level. but this need to be done relatively close to right after you finish that particular surface. What I see in the photos is a surface that still needs leveling. It may be a sand through at the waist but the majority of the appears to just need more levelingMichaelP39041.4972453704

Thanks everyone, last night I took the advice on this thread and used a stiffer sanding block. That took care of the spots problem. I then applied the final coat and out of experimentation did something very similar to what MichaelP suggested. The results came out very nicely. I am now on to the spraying stage which is very exciting because I never sprayed nitro before.

I would never be at this point without all your help! thanks
